About Laura Ancona

MD

Dr. Laura Ancona is a psychiatrist who brings deep hospital and academic experience to her work with clients at Therapy Center of New York (TCNY). She has served as an Attending Psychiatrist with Staten Island University Hospital (Northwell Health) and has held a range of positions across well-respected New York institutions, including the Institute for Family Health and South Beach Psychiatric Center on Staten Island. She also served as Director of Counseling Services for Wagner College, giving her firsthand experience supporting people through both clinical and community settings.

Dr. Ancona is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association—credentials that reflect a recognized standard of expertise in the field. She is also fluent in Spanish, which allows her to connect with and care for Spanish-speaking clients in their preferred language, an important factor in building trust and accuracy in mental health treatment.

At TCNY, Dr. Ancona offers medication management as well as therapy and combined medication-and-therapy care, tailoring her approach to each client's needs. She draws on psychodynamic psychotherapy, psycho-education and psychopharmacology to treat a broad range of concerns. Clients commonly see her for OCD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders, grief, relationship issues, self-esteem and motivation, conflict resolution, cancer and illness support, and LGBTQ-related concerns. Her combination of inpatient, outpatient and college-counseling experience means she is comfortable working with complex presentations and helping clients build resilience and lasting emotional wellbeing. Care is available to adults across New York, in person and through secure telehealth, making it easier to begin and stay consistent with treatment.
